Broadband Subsidy for Po’ Folk

I’m a full-time MBA (online) student looking for work along side billions of others who are also searching for jobs. It is difficult for families with elementary school children to have access to free Wi-Fi hotspots and Public Libraries because transportion is involved. It is even more complicated to convince nonprofit charity organizations that home Internet access is a necessity for most school projects including elementary school tutoring. A landline phone is extremely important to people who are out of work and searching for a job.

Lawmaker’s bill would help poor with broadband costs (Grant Gross | IDG News Service “InfoWorld” September 24, 2009)

“New legislation in the U.S. Congress would expand a program that helps low-income people who get telephone service also get broadband service. Representative Doris Matsui, a California Democrat, introduced the Broadband Affordability Act on Thursday. The bill would require the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to establish a broadband assistance program for low-income people by expanding the Universal Service Fund’s (USF) Lifeline Assistance program.”
