Commissioners should focus on creating jobs
To the Editor: The Sylva Herald (01/14/2010)
If most of the citizens of our county haven’t noticed, I have not seen any articles in the paper about just exactly what our beloved commissioners are doing to try to create jobs in our county.
All you ever see is how much money they can spend on the fight with Duke Energy or how much they can spend on a greenway.
Our citizens need to wake up in this county and cast their vote for someone who might actually care if you are working and providing for your family. Duke Energy rates have risen out of control, our taxes are out of control and our commissioners are out of control. If they would spend half their time trying to create jobs, we might possibly put some of our citizens back to work.
We are sliding downward, and, sooner or later, that sudden stop at the bottom isn’t going to hurt anyone except the paying citizens who are already struggling to keep their heads above water.
We already have a Gatlinburg (Tenn.) where our tourists can visit; we don’t need one here in our county. We need jobs, and people in office who can keep those jobs here so that our people can actually make a living.
The higher the job loss, the more crime.
Let’s take back the county while we still can.
